Great episode guys. I've been trying to crank out short stories to learn more about writing. I've now written three novels and they all need a lot of revising because I still have a lot to learn about telling a good story (plotting, pacing, etc). The later ones have seemed to need less, so I'm learning something - but I loved when Eliyanna talked about being better at plotting now thanks to writing tons of short stories. I've found as I've become serious about writing that the hard part isn't the actual writing - but the plotting. I can sit and crank out words without any problems, but getting the story right with a great beginning middle and end is tough! So that was encouraging to hear, thanks for sharing that Eliyanna. I think the short story is a great vehicle to learn good story telling, and unlike novels it doesn't take forever so you have the potential to learn many lessons in way less time which I find very appealing. I loved The Road by the way. Even though it was bleak there were some touching moments in that novel. Anyways, great episode!

I have always loved paper books, even their smell - but I have to admit I'm with you guys that I prefer reading via eBooks far and above what now feel like clumsy paper books. Plus what's cooler than having the next 20 books you're going to read all in your pocket? I have talked to a lot of people who now do most of their reading on their phones. It's a brave new world of consumption ya'll! I also really struggle with putting my characters through the paces. I'm having to ramp everything up in my revision stage. Thanks for another great show.

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing some research on that. And he just bought me lunch because I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!

Checkout the anime "Angel Beats". It deals with some of the same concepts that was discussed in this episode. Also, how what about calling the process "Relifeing" instead of resurrection or reincarnation.

A suggestion for Ryan...
Your antagonist could be the new ruler or overseer of the Middle Life that the protagonist is stuck in. One the first thing the new ruler does is allow these resurrections to take place for the first time in 20 years.

Chris, your comment is hilarious. :D
Absolutely love Danae's books and all I can say is that her fans (The Corrupted) have all pretty much reached the level where we are refreshing her webpages every 5 seconds. It's pretty insane, but that's just it, Danae's insane and she is an incredible writer. All of the things you think "what if a..." for, Danae has made them happen. I can't even tell you how many times I've burst out laughing or broken down crying while reading her literary crack.
Simply incredible! :D
P.S. @JoBlo, you're an idiot.

Okay, I just finished listening to Episode 209, and I think I have a good idea for Ryan. Picture a young woman who is in a car crash and is traumatically/critically injured. She dies, and goes to mid-life. There she is met by the protagonist. The protagonist expects to help her move on, but she suddenly disappears. He believes that she moves forward on her own. Until, she starts re-appearing. Back in the 1980s world of the living, the young woman is in a hospital, hooked up to a plethora of machines keeping her alive. The machines aren't keeping her from moving on. Around her, are her parents, siblings, fiance, doctors, etc... One of these people keep pulling her back. Not necromany, or magic, but a heightened emotional, spiritual ability. The protagonist concludes that she is being pulled back, but knows that her body is so damaged that if she were to live it would be in a vegetable state, but the person pulling her back does not understand this. Is it one of the parents not being able to let their child go? Is it the fiance not able to let go of the life he had envisioned? Is it the much younger brother who desperately needs his big sister? Is it the doctor who has been so successful that he/she has developed the God Complex, and keeps pulling her back for that one extra chance to perform the medical miracle? Here is where the mystery lies. Plug in the daughter that is slowly coming to terms with the protagonists death, and the time limit he has to help this last spirit, that needs his help more than any other before. Tie him to his daughter in how much or far he can interact with the real world and how he has to be so careful, because the more he uses his daughter to help this young woman the greater the risk he will move on before helping her.

I do most of my writing on my Blackberry. I have come to love "thumbing" (typing with my thumbs) and I can write at least as fast as I can with a pen on paper. Another way I use my phone to write is on my commute in my car with a speech to text app. I can get 500+ words each way. It's not a lot, but it's time I can spend writing. Dragon for Email is free, and if your device doesn't support that then try Vlingo which is also very good. I have an easy drive on a high way that's not crowded - I hit cruise control and 45 minutes passes me by before I know it. This is also where I get most of my reading done via podcast novel and audio books. I write on my phone out of necessity. On those rare occasions where everyone is taking a nap on the weekends or my wife is out with friends on a weeknight. When I can I love using the free app "Darkroom" to write with on our laptop. My free time is very limited because we have 3 kids 3 years old and under, my wife coaches high school gymnastics, and I work full time. Thankfully her coaching is seasonal. I wouldn't trade it for anything, but this is the busiest time of my life. It's also the time where I've committed to take writing seriously and use all my free time to write. I don't play video games anymore. I only watch TV when hanging out with my wife or creating art. The last thing I'll say is that I have found many people to say that once they're home full time and they seem to have all the time in the world - they actually get less writing done. I've heard this to be true for both Mur Lafferty and Nathan Lowell. I have also heard the phrase that busy people get more done. It's a weird thing but it seems to have some validity. Anyways, sorry for such a long comment. I really enjoyed the show, and it was cool to hear that two others writers I look up to also find their phones to be handy devises for getting the words on the page, or screen. Peace out and keep the awesome episodes coming you crazy Dead Robots! Dan out.
