This week Ryan and Justin sit down with Richard Ridley, Author Marketing Specialist with CreateSpace, one of the newest and largest self-publishing companies on the scene today. If you are at all interested or curious about publishing your own work, this is a show you cannot miss. So, settle in, and enjoy. And please, send us any questions we forgot to ask, because I’m sure we forgot plenty.
Oh, before we’re asked about it, I want to let you know that we had intended to ask him about getting published on the Kindle, but because CreateSpace is seperate from Amazon’s Kindle department, that wasn’t something he could go into. If you want to know more about that, please go HERE.
Lastly, I know that there are some folks who are worried about Amazon making moves to limit other print-on-demand companies from selling through their site. Again, this was a question we wanted to ask about, but while CreateSpace is owned by Amazon, it is run and dealt with as its own company, and Richard was not able to speak for Amazon.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this interview, and I hope you learn something from it. I know we did.

Hi! I listened to this podcast – the first I’ve listened to all the way through. I thought it was interesting, primarily for the things “we don’t talk about”. It seems that Lulu will retain some advantages for a while!
I general I still find the podcast format – “talk radio” – more difficult to follow than written text, which would also be so much quicker to read. Some sort of transcript, which I’ve asked about before, would really be a benefit. (*What* did he say?) Still, this one was ‘listenable’, once past the irrelevances of the first 20 minutes or so… 😉
Finally, Web design. I’m currently typing white text into a dark grey background, which is fine – but in the fields above you have me typing White on *Yellow*. Please, for common fields such as name and email, make it plain black on white, so that browsers don’t screw them up too much with their not-so-good auto-entry fields? Not entirely your fault, but something easily sorted.
Best regards,
Steveh11.
I would love a transcript of the show, but I don’t know of any way to do that other than pay for a service or type it all out myself, and that would take hours. I’m sorry, but with every other thing on my plate, doing that isn’t something I can manage. If you know of another way, though, please let me know.
As for the colors, I have no idea how to change that. Isn’t it a set part of the theme?
Thanks for the pod on CreateSpace – I just got through adding all 13 of my CDs and 2 of my books there – I was really pleased overall with everything, few bumps here and there to deal with, but mostly a very easy process for me. I’ve been self publishing for over 20 years and doing all production in-house – finally time for a break on that and figured the costs are now more feasible for me to have them do it and do the shipping so I don’t have to anymore….hmmmmm…..now what will I do with all that extra time…..Thanks for the show, it was good to hear from someone real at CS, usually it is a 24 hour delay from question to response with them and most answers feel like template responses, so it is nice to know they actually do employ physical humans. I understand however that they are trying to streamline everything. So I give them an A- for their performance. I also give them an A+ on the quality of the products – my CD and book proofs arrived quickly and they are beauuutifuuul.
JoAnn, thanks for the comment. I’m glad you got something out of it, and it’s good to hear you’ve found them to be good to work with. I might be doing that myself in the next few months.
