Hey, everyone, Justin here. My friend and co-host Terry is a rabid forum poster, putting even me to shame, and this weekend he let me know that when he’s checking forums over his mobile devices, he likes to use an app called Tapatalk. Hoping to help bring people to our own little forums, as well as make it easier for people to be part of our community no matter where they are, he asked me to make the Dead Robots’ Society forums part of the Tapatalk network. A few minutes and some HTML editing later, it’s done! You can access our forums using the iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerry, WebOS, and Nokia. We all hope this proves to be a benefit to you, our listeners, and that you all join us in continuing the conversation past the weekly podcast.
** UPDATE **
Because you demanded it, we’ve also made the forums available via the Forum Runner app, which is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android devices. They say more are to come, so keep an eye out!
I sincerely hope that all this makes becoming a part of our community easier and more fulfilling. Enjoy.
As was mentioned in this week’s episode, Ryan has made the decision to leave the DRS podcast at the end of this year. No animosity or acrimony precipitated this decision, so no one need worry that he’s leaving under anything but good feelings and well wishes. Ryan is an amazing person, and we are going to miss him terribly. He has been part of the podcast since it began over three years ago, always ready with a witty comment and joke, and we know the show won’t be the same without him. Trust me, this isn’t easy on any of us…
If you have something you’d like to say to Ryan, a goodbye or a well wish or especially a jab, please send it in. We’d love to have some emails and voice mails to send him off with. It would mean a lot to us, and I know he’d love it. His last episode will be here before you know it, so please send them in as soon as you can.
Thank you so much…
Just a quick bit of news. Today I changed the style of our forum. Back when we had our old site theme, a very dark forum style fit it, but now that I’m trying to lighten things up a little, it seemed too dark. And, quiet frankly, I personally never cared for it. Now we have a new style that more closely matches the lighter grays of our new site theme, and I think it’s a cleaner look. I hope those of you who use our forums find it as appealing as I do. If not, you can always switch it back by clicking on the “User Control Panel” link in the upper left of the forum.
Have a great day! And please, let me know what you think. Comments are very welcome.
Hey, everyone. I just wanted to drop a note saying that there won’t be a new episode this week. Over the past several months we’ve worked hard to keep new content coming you way, either through our usual weekly shows or special content from conventions, and we will continue to make every effort to maintain a consistant flow into the future. But, this past week has been especially busy, and we – your hosts – decided that we needed to take a week off to refill our tanks. Call it a mental health break. We hope this doesn’t upset anyone. We look forward to seeing you next week!
This morning when I woke up I noticed that our RSS feed was having an issue. I sent an email to the folks at podHoster and they informed me that they were aware of the issue and were working to resolve it. Thus far I haven’t heard anything new regarding the problem, and my emails are having difficulty making it through. I will continue to try and suss out what’s going on as the day progresses. When I have further news I will post it here immediately. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Well, it’s not almost midnight in my neck of the woods, and podHoster is still having trouble. They seemed to have it licked earlier in the evening, but when I tried to upload a special edition episode it was down again. I have no idea what all is going on, and I apologize for that. PodHoster has been an amazing host since we signed on with them over two years ago, but if they don’t get this issue sussed out by tomorrow then I will begin looking for a new hosting service. Luckily for you you won’t have to do anything. All you’ll notice is that suddenly older episodes are popping up like they’re new again. I’m hoping I won’t have to do that, though, since I recently went through a lot of time and trouble getting all of our episodes put into the feed and our archive page up to date. Cross your fingers for us.
Things seem to be sorted for now. Let’s all hope it stays that way.
Folks, it finally happened. After two and a half years, our humble podcast managed to somehow find its way onto the Featured section of iTunes Podcast>Arts>Literature section. Holy crap. It’s on the last page, and like third from the end, but we’re there! Can I get a w00t w00t!? Wow… I never thought it would happen… Thank you, one and all.
I just wanted to remind everyone that we (the Dead Robots’ Society) have an Amazon link that, when you use it, sends a few pennies our way. If you feel like buying any of the books or movies we talk about, or really just about anything, please give us a thought and click on THIS LINK. Or, use the link in the sidebar to the right. Either way, thank you.
We now return you to your previously scheduled web surfing…
Everyone, we’ve had several people ask for access to the forum, so I have reopened it to user registration. An Admin will need to activate the account, so once you register please email your user name to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll activate you. I still don’t know of a way to make the forum open to invite only or of a better way to combat spammers, so this is all on a “let’s see how it goes” basis. I hope it works out, for us and for you.
Thanks to my brother, Scott, who alerted me to a system AT&T has, we now have a new toll-free phone number for you guys to call and leave messages on. It is – 1-888-661-8089. Please call and let us know how we’re doing and what you’re thinking.
Well, getting our old episodes up and back into the feed isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Perhaps if I weren’t so anal it would be, but I am, so I’m having to go into each episode’s file and add the artwork and show notes all over again. Joy. Of course, I didn’t notice this until after I’d uploaded our first thirty shows. Several hours and swear words later, they were re-uploaded. But, today I start the process again wiser and from a fresh position. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish things up today. Wish me luck!
Well, it looks like I’m done. After spending about two days working my tail off, all of our episodes, special episodes, audio dramas, and Raygun Revival issues are back out. I went over these things I don’t know how many times, but I probably still made some mistakes here and there, so if you find something, let me know. Give all the RSS readers out there a day or two to catch up with all the work I did, though.
Anyway, I hope this helps all our listeners, from the newbies right up to the old-timers who wanted to look back on how far we’ve come. I’m off to bed now. My fingers can’t type anymore…
