Dear Terry. You are thinking of an episode of The Librarians, in which they are trapped in a first person game (an escort mission) and Ezekiel (the thief) is the player. He goes through hundreds of iterations, figuring out how to get the rest through alive, even though their memories are reset each time, other than him. In the last run, he wins by sacrificing himself. Everyone gets out alive, but his memories are reset, so everyone remembers his super-competent self, while he resets back to the goofy kid thief.
